Job Purpose

The Manager Data Integration provides data management support and advice in support of the Data Office (DO). He/she makes a key contribution to develop, plan and execute the adoption of data governance capabilities, and coordination of data demand and Intake projects across their assigned business areas.

The incumbent is responsible for making a key contribution to the overall success of the Data Integration team ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. The incumbent also ensures that all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Key Accountabilities

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Interacts and aligns with assigned business lines and corporate functions, and their respective CIO roadmaps providing advice, guidance and consultative support.
  • Acquires and maintains a strong knowledge of the business lines and corporate functions and their business strategies and drivers and maintains awareness of their related initiatives and/or projects serving as the primary point of contact for Data Office policies, processes and standards.
  • As a liaison, maintains an accurate and current view of the data landscape for assigned business lines and corporate functions (high-level business priorities, key data projects, regulatory drivers, DG organization, progress of the implementation of enterprise data capabilities, etc.) and contributes to program reporting within the Global Data Office as required (eg aggregate business line and corporate function DG reporting, business line and corporate function maturity tracking, etc.).
  • Develops Data Office Activity Plans in conjunction with assigned business lines and corporate functions, and monitors and reports on progress to ensure consistent bank-wide execution and alignment.
  • Maintains a view and anticipates data needs for assigned business lines and corporate functions while identifying overlapping initiatives and synergies across the organization to resolve duplication of effort.
  • Identifies and communicates opportunities and the needs of assigned business lines and corporate functions to Data Office executive to ensure tools, solutions and strategies are aligned with their data management and governance needs.
  • Assesses their assigned business lines and/or corporate functions readiness for change and engages the Data Office's change management tools and resources to overcome obstacles.
  • Maintains proficiency on all Data Management processes, technologies and architectures to provide an intimate level of support for assigned business lines and corporate functions.
  • When required, influences senior management and key stakeholders in business lines and corporate functions to ensure alignment.
  • Understands how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Assesses the business lines and/or corporate functions readiness for change and potential barriers and helping to overcome barriers in the utilization of data management tools.
  • Communicates to the change management team situations where new current tools/solutions/strategies are required to meet their needs.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Champions a high performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.

Education/Work experience/Deisgnations

  • 3-5 years of experience in data management and in leading major data management initiatives.
  • Required - University degree in Business Management, Computer Science, Business Analysis or a related discipline
  • Preferred - MBA and/or equivalent post-secondary education
  • Previous experience in data governance, data or information management is an asset with knowledge of data management and related capabilities.
  • A high degree of flexibility, strong organizational and time management skills are required to adapt to a wide variety of tasks and functions.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting strategic initiatives and making an impact in cross-functional groups, through influence and strong relationships.
  • Proven ability to engage and manage stakeholders in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Understanding of Scotiabank's culture.
  • Strong project management skills and experience.
  • Functionally, the incumbent requires sound and thorough knowledge in communication best practices and approaches, as well as an innate ability to connect the dots' on seemingly remote thoughts or messages. The ability to adapt communication content and styles to suit the audiences, as well as the deliverer, is critical to the job's success.
  • Additionally, understanding how technology can be adopted to expand the repertoire of communication delivery channels is an important element of the job. The job requires the incumbent to regularly assess the communications services being provided to the key support function, and determine with assurance that the needs of the business are being adequately addressed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to present ideas and facilitate discussions to build consensus at all levels.
  • Fluent in Spanish is an asset but not a requirement

  • The incumbent is guided by Bank policy and receives broad direction from the Director Data Integration, and the Vice President, Data Integration, with frequent direction from other members of the Data Office leadership team. For matters requiring the guidance and/or direction from the Director Data Integration, and/or the Vice President, Data Integration, the incumbent is expected to present these items in a well thought out manner with supporting research or foundation.
