One of our favorite clients is looking for a strong problem solver to join their team as a Senior Data Analyst for their Health Plan!

This is an established organization with multiple lines of business (both a Medical Group and a Health Plan) that has the mentality and energy of a start-up. Areas of Focus:

  • 30% report generation/70% Analysis
  • Key areas of analysis include: Risk, Provider Profiling, Health Waste Calculations, & other healthcare reports

Job Summary:

The Senior Healthcare Data Analyst will work collaboratively with users of health plan data information systems on the compilation, analysis and dissemination of reports on Cost, Utilization and Operational Metrics, and/or other related healthcare datasets. This includes coordinating and facilitating all aspects of planning, evaluation and development of solutions to underlying business issues and objectives.

Analytic tools include SQL (SQL Server Management Studio, MS Office, MedInsight and Tableau. Key responsibilities include extracting data, designing reports and analyzing the results.

The Senior level role includes the following characteristics:

o Produces reports of higher complexity, requiring investigation into variances, multivariate analysis and complex SQL query writing.

o Designs solutions in response to business questions

o Conceptual design and report validation

o Executes new reports and visualizations using multiple tools

o Training and mentoring lower level staff

Data Analysis

a. Compile, analyze, and validate healthcare information using various technology and databases such as MS Excel, MS Access, MS SQL query language, electronic health records.

b. Able to utilize analytic tools (eg MedInsight and Tableau) and participate in related workgroups.

c. Work with users and vendors (if applicable) to define concepts and details of reporting requests and translate them into application to accomplish business goals; collaborate with IT/IS resources as needed.

d. Able to multi-task project responsibilities and tasks effectively and update project tracker as required.

e. Able to prioritize workload in alignment to business need and organizational goals.


a. Reporting deliverables should be informative and effective with Executive Summaries and dashboards linked to detailed data in case of desire or need to drill down.

b. Perform complex data extractions and manipulations that culminate in the design of meaningful ad-hoc analyses and/or reports as needed.

c. Conceptualize, design, and validate reports to meet routine needs. Ensure the data is methodologically and statistically sound and accurate while working with IT/IS to automate reports.


  • 3+ years of experience as a Healthcare Data Analyst
  • Intermediate SQL/MYSQL
  • Five (5) years of work manipulating and extracting data from databases, such as SQL or Access, with knowledge of computerized query and reporting tools, statistical tools, and relational databases.
  • 4. Knowledge of health system functions as well as healthcare industry terminology and standard coding systems such as ICD-9-CM, CPT-4, HCPCS, and revenue codes.
