Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems - Special Test Equipment Engineering(STEE) team is seeking their next Principal Engineer Computer System Architectto bechallenged with an expanded role in our Ground Hardware Product Development at our Space Park campusin Redondo Beach, CA.
The qualified applicant will lead a small team supporting Northrop Grumman Ground Hardware Products focused on the incorporation of Cyber Security requirements into custom and COTS hardware (servers, networking, etc) that are deployed worldwide. All products must meet customer requirements and ensures compliance with NIST 800-53 (RMF).
The STEE lead will provide guidance and process support for the team in designing, implementing and maintaining secure solutions aligned with NIST 800-53 controls for areas such as:
  • Windows and RHEL platforms running on bare metal and in a virtualized environment
  • Networking platforms including Routers and firewalls
This lead role also requires the interpretation of cybersecurity requirements and determining how the Ground Hardware products meet those requirements. Position also includes leading the team of system administrators supporting the incorporation of the requirements into the hardware.
Cyber process/policy documentation will be generated and/or modified in this position. Customer interaction and/or presentation may also be required. Therefore good written and/or verbal communication skills are very important for this team.
The primary responsibilities of this position includes working as part of a team to analyze, estimate, validate and report to all levels from peers to senior decision makers on the design of RHEL/Windows platforms. This position will perform and/or evaluate vulnerability assessments on server components/systems utilizing approved government provided configuration guides (STIGs). The candidate must interface with system engineering teams to provide feedback on system requirements; operations and support organizations to coordinate and perform regular cyber assessments. The performance of these tasks will identify deficiencies as well as potential improvements to the existing hardware baseline and its ability to integrate with other components. This position has the potential for opportunities to participate in projects concerning one or more of the following areas: Software Assurance, Site Assessments, Program Protection Planning (PPP), and/or cyber system trade studies for various system architectures.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and 9 years of relevant experience; or 7 Years with Masters; or 4 Years with PhD.
  • Candidate must have and be able to maintain an active U.S. Government security clearance at the Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years, OR must have and be able to maintain an active U.S. Government SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within the last 5 years.
  • This task requires technical knowledge/experience in RHEL 7 and VMWare Data center
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • DoD 8570 baseline certification for an IAT Level III (CISSP for example would be ideal here)
  • Server Hardening and Vulnerability Management experience
  • Experience performing security audits (reviewing network security log files/configuration files for anomalies)
  • Knowledge of the Systems Engineering Life Cycle
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (both verbally and in writing) with team members, managers, and customers on complex and difficult engineering/software issues pertaining to assigned tasks
