GPI is seeking a junior engineer with experience or interest in above water and under water diving inspection for an immediate opening in our Albany NY office to assist with inspection services and project management for numerous state, municipal, and federal clients. Candidates for this immediate opening should be self-motivated, team-oriented engineer/divers with strong communication skills and prior experience in project management will be considered.

Candidates should be able to handle the following typical responsibilities:
  • Conduct site investigations that include SCUBA and surface-supplied diving inspections
  • Ability to manage inspection services contracts including billing clients, managing workforce and assignment of crews, and assisting on proposal writing to win new work
  • Evaluate the level of deterioration in existing structures, assess remaining life in structures
  • Formulate recommendations for repair of existing structures
  • Solve engineering challenges in aquatic/near aquatic environments
  • Ability to communicate with other divers, technicians, design engineers, and support staff
  • Perform other duties as required by other departments within the Albany NY office

Candidates should meet or exceed the following basic requirements:
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam
  • 2-4 years of engineering experience is preferred, previous diving inspection experience will be considered
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university
  • Ability to pass dive physical, physically capable of working full days in the field
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the Eastern United States as work requires
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, with some CADD experience preferred

The individual must be an enthusiastic and motivated candidate with experience or interest in under water diving inspection and is open to above water inspection. Project management of under water and above water inspection contracts will be required based upon experience; previous experience is not mandatory to apply. The successful candidate must have excellent oral and written communications with inspection teams, other GPI and subconsultant staff and with clients.

Position Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
  • Qualified candidate must have a valid driver's license and retain a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration.
  • Possess a personal vehicle for use during the day for transportation to and from and on or around a job site
  • Ability to read and understand plans and direction given in the English language
  • Ability to write in English
  • Basic computer skills
    • Ability to create and or edit Microsoft Word documents
    • Ability to create and or edit Microsoft Excel documents
    • Ability to create and or edit Microsoft Exchange emails with attachments
  • Possess the ability to stand on your feet for approximately 3 hours minimum a day up to 10 hours a day.
  • Possess the ability to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material Variation of elevation 12" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground etc.)
  • Possess the ability to climb a ladder varying from 6 feet to 20 foot extension
  • Possess the ability to ride in a mechanical lift or bucket truck up to a height of 100 feet
  • Be physically able to don and wear and operate personal fall arresting apparatus.
  • Be able to wear GPI standard PPE, ie hard hats, safety vest, work boots, safety glasses/goggles
  • Be able to lift and or carry a weight of 70-90 lbs. (underwater diving hat)
  • Be able to work in a confined space by definition of OSHA.
  • Physically able to wear and work utilizing a respirator or SCBA type of breathing apparatus.
